The wrong breed is a decade-long mistake.
Most families choose a breed from a photograph and discover the temperament afterwards. A coat that demands four hours a month, a working line that needs a job, a hound that will not recall — none of it is a flaw in the dog. It is a failure of matching.
Our matching runs the other way round. We start with the household and end with the breed, then narrow to the breeder and the litter. The recommendation always arrives with its reasoning, so you can disagree with it intelligently.

What is puppy matching?
Puppy matching is the process of pairing a household with the breed — and then the individual litter — that genuinely suits its temperament, climate, hours, and ambitions. It begins with an honest read of your life rather than a photograph of a puppy.
How does the GildedLeash breed matching questionnaire work?
You answer a short, private set of questions about your household, activity, travel, grooming appetite, and what you hope to do together. The house then returns a shortlist of breeds with a written rationale for each, drawn from our own breed standards rather than generic internet lists.
Is a dog matchmaker different from a breeder?
Yes. A breeder produces one breed; a matchmaker is breed-agnostic and works for you. GildedLeash sells no puppies. We recommend the right breed, then introduce you to breeders we know personally within it.
What if the breed I want is not the right match?
We will tell you, plainly, and explain why. Where a desired breed is a poor fit for climate, hours, or household, we offer the nearest breeds that carry the qualities you were actually seeking.
Can you match rare or uncommon breeds?
Yes. Our shortlists routinely include vulnerable and uncommon breeds — Otterhounds, Clumber Spaniels, Löwchen, Harriers — where they are the honest answer for a household.
How long does puppy matching take?
The breed match itself is immediate. Securing the right puppy from the right litter follows the breeder's calendar, which for well-bred lines is typically several months and occasionally longer.
