History
The 'Little Lion Dog' appears in Renaissance tapestries, Goya paintings, and Dürer engravings. Once the favored lap dog of the European courts, the breed was nearly extinct by the 1960s — fewer than 70 remained worldwide. A handful of devoted breeders rescued it; it is still among the rarest pedigrees on the AKC register.
