Otterhound History & Origin
A medieval pack hound bred to hunt otter in the rivers of England, the Otterhound is among the rarest pedigree dogs in the world — fewer than 800 remain globally. King John kept them; so did Elizabeth I. When otter hunting was banned in 1978, the breed faced extinction. Devoted breeders preserved it; today it is a living relic of English sporting history.
